Project Name:Cash-for-Work Relief and Recovery for Haiti

    Project status:Completed projects

    Cooperating Country:Haiti, Caribbean

    Project Description:

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th at 16.53hrs local time (GMT 21.53hrs) collapsing buildings, and affecting nearly three million people in the country.
To response the disaster, TaiwanICDF cooperated with Mercy Corps to initiate a rapid transition from immediate emergency response to economic recovery though a cash-for-work strategy that will advance the clean up process while proving beneficiaries with the cash resources to address their own immediate needs and increasing the flow of money back into the local economy.
    This project will result in:
1.Daily wages for at least 500 people working an average 30 days each on community identified recovery projects (clearing debris, construction of temporary community spaces and facilities, etc).
2.Stimulation of the local economic recovery.
3.Creation of ten community tool banks provided for use in future debris removal projects.
