Project Name:Project to Strengthen Capacity for Commercial Production and Operation of Orchids

Project Description:

Paraguay has cooperated with Taiwan Technical Mission to develop the local orchid industry since 2015. It has achieved the establishment of orchid tissue culture production capacity, the establishment of modern production greenhouses and exhibition and sale center, the guidance of small and medium-sized flower farmers to introduce oncidium production technology, and the attraction of investment from large local business groups. In order to continue to deepen the effectiveness of the previous project, Paraguay hopes that Taiwan Technical Mission will assist in introducing a commercial operation model in this project, improve the financial independence and sustainable operation capabilities of the Caacupé production center and the San Lorenzo exhibition and sale center (hereinafter referred to as the Orchid Center), And then form an industrial chain of segmented production with existing large-scale operators to improve the competitiveness of the orchid industry in Paraguay.

Project Objectives:

1. Counseling the Orchid Center to introduce commercial operation entities

Establish segmental production of orchid industry
3. Strengthen the marketing ability of Paraguay flower industry

Executing Agency:

2. International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan)

Current Progress:

As of the end of January 2026, the following has been completed:

1. Two farmers’ production and marketing associations were established and assisted in obtaining business registration. Continuous guidance has also been provided to the Caacupé Orchid Producers Association and the San Lorenzo Orchid Kingdom Association in building sustainable commercial operation mechanisms.

2. The Orchid Center expanded its facilities by adding a 600-square-meter greenhouse.

3. A cumulative total of 335,356 orchid seedlings have been produced, and the revolving fund has reached a cumulative balance of USD 579,436.

4. A total of 13 training workshops for orchid industry operators have been conducted, along with 23 orchid marketing events and 6 large-scale orchid exhibitions.

5. Ongoing support has been provided to Taiwan Agricultural Investment Co. and Floricultura del Paraguay in continuing the cultivation of mature Phalaenopsis orchids into extra-mature plants, while establishing a relay-based division of labor within the orchid industry production chain.

Projected Benefits:

The orchid center of Paraguay, which will be financially independent and have commercial operation capacity, will have an annual production value of US$550,000.
