Project Description:
This project aims to strengthen the Government of Belize’s capacity for multi-hazard disaster risk management by promoting coordination and integration between the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management and the Ministry of the Public Service and Disaster Risk Management. It will do so through the establishment of technical systems, capacity building for professional personnel, and institutional strengthening, thereby reinforcing the national disaster risk management and emergency response framework.

Project Objectives:
1. Strengthen inter-ministerial disaster risk management and response mechanisms.
2. Increase national coverage of resilient communities.
3. Introduce automated forest wildfire monitoring technologies.

Current Progress:
To the end of March 2026, the following activities have been completed:
1. Commenced inventory of high-risk communities within the project area as the basis for selecting 15 priority sites for hazard mapping and disaster drills to expand national resilient community coverage.
2. Initiated collection of data on flood and fire risk management and pre-disaster preparedness to inform the production of annual advisory reports.
