Project Name:Project for Strengthening the Sustainable Development of the Bamboo Industry in Guatemala

Project Description:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Guatemala has requested Taiwan’s assistance in supporting the sustainable operation of the Bamboo Processing and Research Center established under the previous project, so that the Center can serve as Guatemala’s largest bamboo processing facility and a hub for bamboo industry promotion. In view of the growing demand for bamboo products in Guatemala, this project aims to introduce a commercial operation model, strengthen the Center’s capacity in product development, market research, operational management, and financial self-sufficiency, and enhance the processing and business management capabilities of local enterprises through value chain guidance and technical training. The project will also introduce international certification for bamboo forest carbon sequestration and a carbon credit trading mechanism, thereby expanding diversified revenue sources for the bamboo industry and strengthening the sustainability of project outcomes.

Project Objectives:
The Bamboo Processing and Research Center in Guatemala will develop commercial operation capacity and achieve financial self-sufficiency, with annual revenue reaching US$560,000. Through the Center, the project will strengthen the development of Guatemala’s bamboo industry value chain and encourage the adoption of industrialized technologies to build capacity in bamboo raw material processing, including carbon credit applications.

Current Progress:
As of the end of March 2026, the project had completed the following key activities:
- The project agreement has been signed.
- The launch meeting for the bamboo forest carbon credit initiative has been held.
