Project Name:Enhancement of Karawang Vegetable and Fruits Marketing System Project

Project Description:

The "Karawang Horticulture Development Project" implemented by the Technical Mission in Indonesia from 2020 to 2022 applied production technology, established distribution channels and counselled farmer cooperative, which helped the farmers in Karawang to switch from planting rice to high-valued cash crops, which raised farmers' income by 24%. For achieving the goals of increasing farmers' income, improving farmers' living standards and boosting employment in the agricultural sector, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has been in contact with Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia and hoping to gain more fruitful results from this project and ask for further guidance to local farmers for the improvement of their crop productivity and to develop product diversity in the market. This project takes the Karawang cooperative as the main body and plans to establish cooperation with local distributors by intergrating neighboring areas and to form a "small scale farmers production alliance". In order to develop diversified distribution channels, increase supplied items, and raise consumers' brand awareness, thereby strengthening the resilience of the fruit and vegetable marketing system in the region. And as well, echoing the 2nd and 8th goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main objectives of this project include: (1) Developing diversified distribution channels; (2) Increasing supplied items and developing star products; (3) Strengthening consumers’ brand awareness.

Current Progress:

As of the end of September 2025, the following activities have been fulfilled:

1. Developed a total of 22 premium market outlets and 34 official distribution places:

    • Yogya Mall: 1 location (5 branch stores)
    • Pasarnow: 1 location
    • Kemchicks: 1 location
    • Papaya: 1 location (7 branch stores)
    • Rezeki: 5 locations
    • Total Buah: 1 location
    • Grocer: 2 locations
    • Market City: 5 locations
    • Ranch99 (new supermarket): 3 locations
    • Farmer Market (new supermarket): 3 branch stores
    • green apple (new supermarket): 1 branch store

2. Expanded supermarket distribution channels, with total supplies of 119.69 tons, and increased farmers' income by 75%. 

3. Hosted 39 weekend markets and 10 exhibitions.

4. Made 6 video clips for marketing purposes.

5. Hold a total of 7 food and agriculture education activities for local schools in alignment with the new government's policy.

6. Established the “AGRIMART Campus Agricultural Store” at the Karawang Agricultural Vocational School as a platform for student internships and product display. The store enables students to sell the agricultural and processed products they cultivate, using a market-oriented training approach. It also incorporates concepts of marketing and business management to cultivate a new generation of young farmers.

7. Hold a total of  20  farmer training sessions.

Projected Benefits:

 By the end of the project, we plan to increase production sales in the unconventional market by 25% compared to current sales.
