Project Description:
The Kingdom of Eswatini has the world’s highest HIV/AIDS rate, and the health needs and care of infected mothers and infants have become serious concerns in the country. To assist the country in increasing in accessibility to health care services, the TaiwanICDF and Chia-Yi Christian Hospital collaborated in implementing the project to improve the quality of medical personnel in Eswatini. Overall, this project will:
1.Capacity building among personnel at health care units.
2.Upgrading of the functions of health care units.

Project Objectives:
The objectives of this project are:
1.Capacity building among personnel at health care units:
A.Conduct a Maternal and Infant Health Care Review.
B.Building among personnel with a focus on ANC/PNC at primary and tertiary health care units.
2.Upgrading of the functions of health care units:
A.Upgrade the basic maternal and infant health care functions of primary health care units.
B.Upgrade the emergency and critical maternal and infant care functions of tertiary care units.
C.Strengthen the maternal and infant case management system of health care units.
D.Strengthen the promotion of maternal and infant health care training in the community.

Implementation Arrangement:Members of the Project will provide technical assistance and assistance for capacity building.
Project Performance:
An increase in the accessibility of maternal and infant health care services.
1. Capacity building among personnel at health care units:
(1) Submitted 1) needs assessment report about maternal and infant health care personnel, and 2) guide to continuing training for personnel working in maternal and infant health care to the MoH in Eswatini.
(2) Provided a two-month training on “ANC, PNC and case management” to 10 seed instructors with Chia-yi Christian Hospital in Taiwan.
(3) Accomplished 4 local trainings on “ANC, PNC and case management” to 131 nurses and midwives.
2. Upgrading of the functions of health care units:
(1) Completed the donation of medical equipment to RFM hospital and 6 SNHI clinics.
(2) Provided a two-month training on “ANC/PNC and health care promotion” to 2 seed instructors with Chia-yi Christian Hospital in Taiwan.
(3) Accomplished 8 local trainings on “ANC/PNC and health care promotion” to 303 rural health motivators.
(4) RFM hospital has implementing 3 SOPs, including hand wash, infant incubator maintenance and high risk condition case management.
(5) Provided a two-week “IT Management Training Program” to 2 IT technicians with Chia-yi Christian Hospital in Taiwan.
(6) Disseminated 21,000 ANC and PNC promotion material to clinics and RHMs.
