President of the Guatemalan Congress Excmo. Sr. Nery Abilio Ramos y Ramos led a four-member delegation to visit the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) on July 16, 2024.
The Secretary General of the TaiwanICDF, Amb. Dr. Charles C. Li, warmly welcomed the delegation. Aside from Congress President Ramos, the visitors also included 2nd Vice President Hon. Sr. César Augusto Amézquita del Valle, 1st Secretary Hon. Sra. Karina Alexandra Paz Rosales, Parliamentary Whip of Movimiento Semilla Hon. Sr. José Carlos Sanabria Arias, and Director of Department of Protocal of the Congress Sr. Víctor Jaroslav Alburez. They exchanged views on the TaiwanICDF’s cooperation projects in Guatemala.
The TaiwanICDF’s ongoing projects in the country include “Early Warning and Disaster Management System Project”, “Project for the Promotion of Medical Technology for Improvement of Maternal-Neonatal Health in Guatemala(Phase Ⅱ)”, “Corn Production Resilience Strengthening Project”, and “Regional project for the Prevention and Control of Fusarium TR4 of Banana in Central America”. In addition, the TaiwanICDF also dispatches Mandarin teachers and servicemen to assist with implementing these projects under the Taiwan Youth Overseas Service program.
To date, 316 Guatemalans have received training in the TaiwanICDF Professional Workshop Program, while 188 Guatemalan students have received funding from the TaiwanICDF International Higher Education Scholarship Program and studied in Taiwan.
