TaiwanICDF Hosts ASF Workshop to Train Allies in Disease Prevention and Control
Published Thu Aug. 31, 2023
Nineteen participants from six of Taiwan’s Latin American allies attended the TaiwanICDF’s 2023 African Swine Fever Inspection Technology Training Course from July 3 to August 1. Attendees came from the fields of animal husbandry, animal inspection and veterinary science. Lectures featured laboratory investigations and field trips covering topics related to ASF detection, prevention and management, including hands-on experiences with specimen preprocessing and necropsy. As a result, participants built a strong foundation in specimen examination as well as ASF management and risk reduction.
The TaiwanICDF also arranged for engagement between participants and GeneReach Biotechnology representatives. This company donated POCKIT Central nucleic acid testing equipment to Taiwan’s allies to support their efforts in minimizing ASF’s socioeconomic and health risks while securing livelihoods, fostering food security and safety, and creating business opportunities in the Latin American region. The participation of the public and private sectors in this workshop demonstrated its value as a collaborative platform.
Ambassadors from the six allied countries attended the workshop’s closing ceremony on August 1. They thanked the TaiwanICDF for arranging the course and equipping their citizens with the knowledge and skills needed for ASF detection, prevention, and risk reduction.
