Delivering Love to Your Home-Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) in the Republic of Indonesia distributed vegetables to local public kitchens and provided food to vulnerable households.
With the COVID-19 pandemic becoming more serious in Indonesia, the TaiwanICDF and TTM used existing resources to assist Indonesia in providing relief for farmers in the Karawang regency, helping mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
The pandemic has affected many farmers and vulnerable households in Karawang; people have been unable to work as usual and livelihoods are under threat.
Therefore, TTM cooperated with the Karawang county government to provide storage, transportation, and agricultural materials to farmers at no cost and connected farmers to supermarkets, which led to an increase in farmer incomes. Furthermore, TTM also delivered fresh vegetables to local public kitchens and provided meals to vulnerable households, helping farmers pass through tough times during the pandemic.
These relief actions have benefitted around 6,900 people. In addition to expressing gratitude to the TaiwanICDF, the Karawang county government also fully supported implementation of the measures, helping enhance friendly relations between the people of Taiwan and Indonesia, and conveying the concept of ‘‘Taiwan can help!’’
Rice is the main crop in the Karawang regency. In order to cooperate with the Indonesian national policy to build the Karawang regency into a demonstration area for integrated agricultural development, the TaiwanICDF has cooperated with the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture on a 3-year horticulture development project. The project aims to provide complete technical guidance for farmers in Karawang through agricultural enterprises management training, establish stable marketing channels for farmers with a joint marketing system, and enhance the income of farmers in the Karawang regency
