Ministry of National Defense Medical Affairs Bureau Assists with Medical Cooperation Project in Burkina Faso

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and Medical Affairs Bureau of Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China are jointly dispatching a gastrologist and a dentist to Taiwan Medical Mission in Burkina Faso to assist in implementing ROC and Burkina Faso Medical Cooperation Project. The project aims to improve specialized medical care services in Burkina Faso.

Burkina Faso, one of Taiwan’s partner countries in Africa, has long faced a shortage of healthcare personnel, especially specialized doctors. Taiwan Medical Mission in Burkina Faso was set up in 1994 with assistance from Medical Affairs Bureau of Ministry of National Defense, who sent specialized doctors to support the mission in its initial stage.

This year the dispatch of two doctors designated by Medical Affairs Bureau to Taiwan Medical Mission in Burkina Faso, unveils a new chapter of cooperation on medical diplomacy and renews both parties’ commitment to provide specialized medical care personnel in the country. Through this collaboration, the TaiwanICDF also looks forward to developing a more comprehensive and continuous cooperation framework with Medical Affairs Bureau.

In the future, the TaiwanICDF will continue to echo the UN Sustainable Development Goals, acting as an integration platform of public health and medicine projects and using our advantages and experience in this field to assist our partner countries to strengthen their healthcare and medical systems.
