Date: May 20, 2025

Time: 18:00 – 19:30 (Geneva time)

Venue: Apollon Meeting Room, Hotel President Wilson, Geneva

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), in collaboration with the National Health Research Institute (NHRI), the Terre des Hommes Foundation (TdH), and the Foundation of Medical Professional Alliance in Taiwan (FMPAT), will co-host a forum titled “Empowering Through Inclusive Healthcare: Leveraging Smart Technologies for Accessibility” during the 78th World Health Assembly.

The forum will open with remarks by Taiwan’s Minister of Health and Welfare, Dr. Tai-Yuan Chiu. Dr. Simone Keizer Beache, Chief Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will moderate the forum. Paraguayan Minister of Public Health and Social Welfare Dr. María Teresa Barán Wasilchuk will be the keynote speaker, and she will share her country’s experience in improving public health governance through its digital health transformation.

Other experts will also share their expertise based on their work and specialties. TaiwanICDF Deputy Secretary General Stephen J.H. Lee will present the agency’s experience in promoting smart healthcare technologies in partner countries. Mr. Kallol Mukherji, Digital Health Manager at Tdh, will speak on the integrated e-diagnosis approach in maternal and newborn healthcare. Dr. Fatma Aziza Merzouki, lead scientist at the Geneva Digital Health Hub, will discuss the role of teleconsultation in fostering inclusive healthcare, drawing examples from Nepal and Mali. The forum will conclude with closing remarks by TaiwanICDF Deputy Secretary General Peifen Hsieh.

As Taiwan’s official foreign aid agency, the TaiwanICDF is working in coordination with the Taiwanese government’s Smart Healthcare Flagship Initiative under the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, helping partner countries build resilient health information systems and AI-driven tools. Through these efforts, it seeks to strengthen healthcare from the community level to national institutions. The forum will be aimed at showcasing Taiwan’s achievements in advancing smart healthcare, which align with the SMART Guidelines published by the World Health Organization. We aim to advocate for the standardization and adoption of digital health systems, and to further realize the global vision of universal health coverage.
