Fruitful Results! TaiwanICDF Demonstration Farm in the Philippines Earns PhilGAP Certification
The TaiwanICDF is proud to announce that the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) in the Philippines has successfully obtained certification under the Philippine Good Agricultural Practices (PhilGAP) program. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the TTM’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable and high-quality agriculture in the Philippines.
PhilGAP certification is based on four core principles: food safety, product quality, environmental protection, and workers’ welfare. By meeting these rigorous standards, the demonstration farm not only reinforces Taiwan’s professional image in agricultural assistance but also strengthens the TaiwanICDF farm's role as a model for agricultural excellence in the region.
TTM in the Philippines leader Mr. Dominick Lee shared that the audit process was thorough and comprehensive, covering farm production management, storage facilities, pesticide and fertilizer usage, production records, as well as water and soil quality. The TTM excelled in all areas, earning high praise from the audit team of the Philippine Bureau of Plant Industry. Highlights included the farm’s clean and well-organized warehouse, clear separation and proper labeling of tools and hazardous materials, comprehensive and traceable production records, and qualified results from water and soil tests.
Mr. Lee also highlighted the success of two key local partners—the Tabon San Jose Farmers’ Association in Pampanga Province and Sembrano Cooperative in Tarlac Province—who both received PhilGAP certification under joint programs with the TaiwanICDF and the Philippine Department of Agriculture. These achievements demonstrate the expanding influence of PhilGAP standards within local farming communities. Another partner, the Casalat Cooperative in Bulacan Province, is currently undergoing the certification process and is expected to be accredited soon.
TaiwanICDF Deputy Secretary General Ms. Hsieh Pei-Fen emphasized that beyond improving local agricultural techniques, the TTM also aims to introduce safer, more environmentally friendly, and efficient farm management practices through PhilGAP certification. She added that the TaiwanICDF will continue to provide training and technical support to help more farms in the Philippines meet PhilGAP standards, thereby contributing to the long-term sustainable development of the country’s agricultural sector.
