TaiwanICDF Assists St. Kitts and Nevis Improve World Ranking in E-Government

According to the 2018 United Nations E-Government Survey, St. Kitts and Nevis leapt by 32 places in e-Government Development Index (EGDI) from 103rd in 2016 to 71st in 2018, the most improved ranking in the Caribbean region. The results are due in great part to Taiwan’s efforts. For many years, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) has assisted St. Kitts and Nevis to develop e-government services and collaborated with the country in establishing systems and equipment, such as the National ICT Centre, hospital information system and land administration information system.

For example, since its establishment the National ICT Centre has helped the Caribbean Development Bank, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Sustainable Development, Inland Revenue Department, and other domestic and foreign agencies to hold workshops and activities, effectively promoting ICT and related knowledge. Furthermore, it has been re-authorized as a Pearson VUE Test Centre, helping young people to gain internationally certified competency level in various computer fields. Minister of Communications and Attorney General, Hon. Vincent Byron, has thanked the Taiwanese government many times in public occasions and indicated that the bilateral projects effectively assist the country in achieving e-government goals and accelerated national development.

In the future, the TaiwanICDF will continue to provide education and training through ICT projects and offer scholarships for students to study for a degree or participate in workshops in Taiwan, thereby training more ICT talents for St. Kitts and Nevis.
