Amb. Weber V.B. Shih, Secretary General of the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and Mr. Enzo Quattrociocche, Secretary General of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed an MOU on September 13 committing to cooperation to promote Green Economy Transition (GET).

Following the United Nations’ announcement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the adoption of the Paris Agreement at COP21 in 2015, sustainable development and climate change mitigation and adaptation are now among the most pressing issues in the international development community. This MOU, which was signed in Taipei at the headquarters of the TaiwanICDF, represents the TaiwanICDF’s commitment towards green action and cooperation in line with the global trends. Amb. Shih stressed that the two institutions have common values, and the TaiwanICDF will continue to support and participate in EBRD’s projects which are expected to deliver green economy transition impacts.

Economy transition is the cornerstone of EBRD’s mandates. As a leading multilateral institution with more than 10 years’ successful experience in pioneering green energy and sustainable resources projects, EBRD has introduced GET approach to explicitly bring green elements into its mandates, and is committed to further increase its share of green investments. Mr. Quattrociocche indicated at the signing ceremony that Taiwan has a strong competitive advantage in green technologies which are greatly needed by EBRD’s countries of operation, and there will be increased business potential for Taiwanese companies.

The TaiwanICDF is Taiwan's professional development assistance organization. In recent years, it has been working with partners on promoting green technologies, private sector development and addressing food security issues, in order to realize Taiwan’s environmental commitments to protecting the earth.
