TaiwanICDF to Launch Health Management of Greenhouse Vegetables and Product Safety Inspection Project in the Dominican Republic

To solve problems of pesticide residues, plant diseases and insect pests encountered in greenhouse production, and to improve the capabilities and efficiency of greenhouse management of the Dominican Republic, the TaiwanICDF and the government of the Dominican Republic have cooperated to implement the “Health Management of Greenhouse Vegetables and Product Safety Inspection Project in the Dominican Republic.” The agreement of this project was signed by His Excellency Valentino Ji-Zen Tang, Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the Dominican Republic Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Hon. Juan Temístocles Montás on December 22, 2015.

The government of the Dominican Republic has promoted the production and export of greenhouse vegetables for more than a decade, and has gained a solid foundation and important achievements in this field. To further ameliorate the conditions of the medium and small farmers living in poverty, the government of the Dominican Republic would like to learn from Taiwan’s experience and advancement in small greenhouse vegetable production and in pesticide residue testing, so as to strengthen farmers’capacity and increase their income.

Through the establishment of a system for pesticide management, promotion of good agricultural practices, and development of greenhouse production techniques and facilities that are compatible with the local environment, the TaiwanICDF will assist the farmers of the Dominican Republic to strengthen pesticide residue inspection in greenhouse vegetables, improve management practices, and raise the safety, quality and productivity of greenhouse crops.
