Project Objectives:Provide post-disaster assistance following the January 12 earthquake in Haiti by reviving the agricultural sector, resettling survivors and increasing the income available to farmers through auxilary occupations.
Executing Agency:Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development of Haiti
Implementation Arrangement:Taiwan ICDF dispatch one project coordinator to Haiti for assistance in executing this project, especially in technical extension works.
Project Performance:Skills training will provide technical human resource to supply current demand in the country; utilizing a food-for-work system will encourage survivors to participate in post-disaster efforts to achieve a sustainable economic recovery. Agricultural extension will increase local food production and associated incomes, and resolve food security issues that arose in the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake. 10 skills training courses for construction workers; and 8 bamboo handicraft training courses were conducted during this project. Also 322.5 ha. for crops was extended.
