Project Description：

To increase livestock production, improve food self-sufficiency, and support balanced nutrition for children, the Government of Indonesia requested Taiwan's assistance in supporting Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in South Sulawesi to develop high-quality maize varieties and establish a commercial seed production model. The project aims to meet Indonesia's growing demand for feed maize while enhancing the domestic supply capacity and competitiveness of the national maize seed industry.

The project comprises two major components:

(1) Establishing a commercial production model for domestic maize parental lines and hybrid seed production. 

(2) Strengthening the commercial production capacity of maize parental lines and hybrid seeds.

Project Objectives：

The project will establish a domestic hybrid maize seed supply chain model in South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, increasing the adoption of domestically produced F1 flint maize seeds to 22.5%.

Executing Agency：

Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University, Taiwan Technical Mission in the Republic of Indonesia

Current Progress：

By the end of June 2026, the following activities have been implemented:

1. Established a joint project team with Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), developed project implementation and coordination mechanisms, and selected a demonstration site for maize seed production on the university campus. 

2. Completed field surveys of maize parental seed production areas and selected six demonstration districts for 2026: Gowa, Soppeng, Bulukumba, Bantaeng, Barru, and Bone. 

3. Conducted field visits and needs assessments with farmers, local agricultural offices, and other key stakeholders in the target areas. The findings will serve as the foundation for establishing demonstration plots, promoting parental seed production, delivering training programs, and strengthening farmer.
