Project Name:Goat Industry Enhancement Project in the Kingdom of Eswatini
Project status:Projects in Operation
Cooperating Country:Africa, Kingdom of Eswatini
Project Description:
This project aims to assist Eswatini in enhancing goat farming efficiency and market supply capacity of goat meat, thereby increasing farmers’ income. Currently, goat farming in Eswatini is largely small-scale, with long-term inbreeding leading to genetic degeneration, extended fattening periods, and low productivity. Previously, domestic demand could be supplemented through imports from South Africa; however, disease outbreaks have prompted Eswatini to impose import restrictions, creating a domestic supply gap. Eswatini therefore seeks to apply Taiwan’s experience and technology to improve the industry’s structure and productivity. Project activities include: 1. Establish a goat genetic resource base to support local breeding; 2. Establish a goat breeding and supply system to promote commercialized production; 3. Strengthen the goat value-chain system and market mechanisms. In addition, with support from the European Union, the Ministry of Agriculture is implementing the “Eswatini Livestock Value Chain Development Programme,” which is expected to work in synergy with this Project to jointly promote the development and upgrading of the goat industry.
Implementation Start Date:2026-01-01
Implementation End Date:2030-12-31
Project Objectives:
By the end of the project, 50% of Eswatini’s goat meat market deficit will be filled.
