Project Description：

Fiji's agriculture is facing increasing threats from extreme weather events, such as unusually high temperatures and frequent heavy rainfall, both of which are being intensified by climate change. In response, the Fiji Government urgently needs to strengthen its resilience capabilities in agriculture.

The Taiwan Technical Mission in Fiji will act as a technology advisor, introducing advanced, environmentally friendly agricultural tools and technologies developed in Taiwan. The Mission will also engage with local communities to promote agricultural education and strengthen Fiji's “Twin Transformation” efforts in the agricultural sector, helping lay the foundation for the country's sustainable agricultural development.

The main components of the project include:(1) Resource allocation for promoting resilient crop varieties; (2) Introduction of resilient cultivation techniques; (3) Establishment of resilient demonstration sites.

Implementation End Date：2029-12-31

Project Objectives：

1. Reserve resources for the promotion of weather-resistant crop varieties, foster exchanges in the industrial chains between the two countries, and conduct forward-looking research and analysis to support the expansion of Taiwan's seedling industry into international markets and promote foreign investment in the future, thereby achieving the goal of economic prosperity for partner countries.
2. Introduce resilient cultivation technologies, align with the goals of tech diplomacy, develop site-appropriate smart agricultural technologies, and establish industrial backbone technologies (or models) to support agricultural development in partner countries.
3. Establish a resilience demonstration site and expand cooperation with international organizations such as the United States and Japan to jointly promote an industrial upgrading model aligned with the twin transformation, creating examples of value diplomacy in practice.

Current Progress：

To the end of March 2025, the following activities have been completed:

1. Guided 2 farmers in adopting resilient cultivation.

2. Ensured sustainable operation of the Sigatoka demostration center, generating $27,970 in revenue.

3. Completed 2 resilient workshops.

Project Performance：

Farmers receiving guidance on 23 hectares of land are expected to reduce production losses caused by extreme weather by 60%.
