Project Name:Expansion of Agricultural Production and Promotion of Nutritional Balance Project (Tuvalu)

Project Description:

The project will assist Tuvalu to expand the production of local fruits and vegetables, promote cultivation techniques and promote nutrition and healthy eating concepts on each island to improve the health of all people in Tuvalu. The four tasks planned are: 1. Expand the cultivation area of ​​the Hope Garden on Vaitupu Island to at least 3 hectares and provide guidance on fruit and vegetable cultivation techniques; also assist Motufoua High School in the demonstration of vegetable and fruit cultivation on its own farm, and provide relevant agricultural production internship courses and meals of fruits and vegetables for students. Stable supply of fruits and vegetables to islanders; 2. Strengthen the vegetable and fruit production capacity of the newly established half-acre farms on each outer island, and conduct capacity building training for the youth of the outer islands; 3. Provide guidance on the vegetable and fruit cultivation demonstration of the Happy Friendship Garden on the main island and the Wonderful Garden on the small outlying island of Funafala production to increase the variety and quantity of fruits and vegetables at the Happy Friendship Garden Market; 4. Conduct vegetable and fruit nutrition promotion and cooking activities to increase people’s willingness to eat fruits and vegetables.

Project Objectives:

By the end of the project, the "Individual Dietary Diversity Score" (IDDS) of students and teachers at the Motufoua campus will reach at least 4 points.
