Project Name:Enhancing the efficiency of production-distribution supply chain in fruit and vegetable sector in St. Lucia (The second phase)

Project Description:

TaiwanICDF has cooperated with the government of Saint Lucia to implement the project of “Enhancing the efficiency of production-distribution supply chain in fruit and vegetable sector” since 2018. The agricultural information system and production and marketing adjustment mechanism have been established to effectively assist in the development of the country’s agriculture. The government of the country hopes that the use of this agricultural technology will strengthen the country’s agricultural production and improve the income of farmers, as well as build the resilience of the agricultural sector to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Project Objectives:

In order to achieve sustainable agriculture goals, the main contents of this plan include:

1. Promote diversified production.
2. Establish a high-efficiency production model.
3. Strengthen the local agricultural product sales/marketing mechanism and develop the value-added agricultural products.

Executing Agency:

Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, and Food Security and Taiwan Technical Mission in St. Lucia.

Current Progress:

By the end of December, 2024, the following activities have been completed:

1. Organised 2 training courses on the operation of small farm machinery for 100 people.
2. Held 4 material recycling sales events.
3. Completed 1 compost processing shed and organised 4 training courses on compost.
4. Held 8 agricultural workshops covering topic including safe pesticide use, the application of plant growth regulators, and the cultivation of crops such as cabbage, Chinese cabbage, and ginger.

5. Delivered 7 sessions of food and agriculture education more than 200 students and teachers.
6. Organised 4 farmers' markets.
7. Organised 6 training courses on agricultural processing and 5 on food safety.
