Project Name:2025 Rice Production Enhancement Project in Artibonite Valley, Haiti

Project Description:

The project aims to build upon the achievements of the "2024 Rice Production Enhancement Project in Artibonite Valley, Haiti", to stabilize national rice production in Haiti and to improve food security as a priority. Project implementation will involve: 1. the production of 1,200 metric tons of various grades of Taichung Sen 10 rice seed; 2. and, the production of 750 metric tons of paddy rice.

Project Objectives:

  1. Production of 1,200 metric tons of various grades of Taichung Sen 10 rice seeds;
  2. Production of 750 metric tons of paddy rice; 
  3. Training of 12 field inspectors and 6 laboratory staff members; 
  4. Operational support for 5 Joint Service Centers for farmers;
  5. Support for the operation of two agricultural machinery repair stations and provision of contract plowing services for 200 hectares;
  6. Training of 240 farmers and organization of two field demonstration sessions; 
  7. Data development and application of an agricultural product traceability system.

Current Progress:

As of the end of October 2025, the following has been completed:

  1. Preparation of land, seedling cultivation, transplanting, and rogue removal for varietal purification of four rice varieties (Sheila, CAP, MGG, and M8), covering 0.12 hectares (second season crop).
  2. Preparation of land, seedling cultivation, transplanting, and rogue removal for 0.25 hectares of breeder seed fields (second season crop).
  3. Preparation of land, seedling cultivation, transplanting, pest and disease control, and rogue removal for 5 hectares of foundation seed fields (second season crop).
  4. Preparation of land, seedling cultivation, transplanting, pest and disease control, and rogue removal of 200 hectares by contract farming households producing registered seeds (second season crop).
  5. Preparation of land, seedling cultivation, transplanting, pest and disease control, and rogue removal of 125 hectares of rice for commercial production (second season crop).
  6. Production of 664.805 metric tons of rice seed for the first season crop, including 0.805 metric tons of breeder seed, 16 metric tons of foundation seed, and 648 metric tons of registered seed; technical assistance provided for the production of 382.5 metric tons of paddy rice.
  7. Compilation of training material and organization of six farmer training sessions, with a total of 140 farmers trained.
  8. Operational management (including maintenance and repair) of agricultural machinery at five Joint Service Centers for farmers, and provision of post-harvest processing guidance for rice seed.
  9. Registration of farmland in the agricultural production traceability system for 200 hectares for the first season crop.
