Project Name:Improving Nutritional Status of Households Affected by the Earthquake in South Department, Haiti
Project status:Completed projects
Cooperating Country:Haiti
Project Description:
A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Haiti’s southwest on the 14th of August, 2021. The two communes, Camp Perrin and Maniche, in the South Department were identified as the most severely affected areas by the the Ministry of Public Health and Population of Haiti. Basic facilities for public health and water supply were destroyed and people lost livelihoods and faced food shortages. All of these multiple problems worsen the nutritional status of vulnerable pregnant and lactating women and children. Hence, they were urgently in need of nutrition-related humanitarian assistance. This project aims to improve the nutritional needs and conditions of women and children under five years impacted by the earthquake in the communes of Camp Perrin and Maniche. Overall, the project includes the following:
1. 3,600 children screened and 200 acutely malnourished children identified and referred to appropriate treatment services.
2. 800 households with pregnant and lactating women receive fortified flour.
3. 35,000 people receive awareness sessions on malnutrition screening and referrals, IYCF, care practices, referrals, WASH and GBV.
4. 250 households benefit from Non-food item (NFI) and hygiene kits and improve sanitation and hygiene practices.
