Project Name:Enhancing Nutrition Balance Through Agricultural Production Project Phase II (Marshall Islands)

Project Description:

This project is aimed at promoting local fruit and vegetable production to enhance the nutritional quality of school meals in partner schools. It aims to further increase local fruit and vegetable production while also improving Marshallese students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors toward healthy eating, ultimately strengthening their dietary balance.

Additionally, from a technological advisory perspective, the Taiwan Technical Mission will support the dual-axis transformation of local industries by implementing demonstration projects such as  the installation photovoltaic systems  and the recycling of plastic waste into plant pots. These initiatives aim to enhance environmental resource management and climate resilience.

The main components of this project include (1) increasing the production and accessibility of diverse local fruits and vegetables, and (2) promoting dietary diversity and nutrition education to improve the healthy eating habits of Marshallese students.

Implementation End Date:2029-12-31

Project Objectives:

Increasing the vegetable content in school meals at partner schools in the Marshall Islands to 60 grams per meal ,and achieving a diverse diet score of 4.5.

Executing Agency:

Ministry of Natural Resources & Commerce-Agriculture Division/Ministry of Education, Sports and Training-Public School System (PSS) /Partner schools in the Marshall Islands/Taiwan Technical Mission in the RMI

Current Progress:

As of the end of March 2025, the following has been completed:

1. Harvested 2,887.45 kilograms of vegetables at Laura Farm in Majuro, ensuring a stable supply for group meals in cooperative schools, benefiting a total of 1,512 students. 
2. Produced 34,412 seedlings for cultivation by cooperative schools and farmers, and provided guidance to two schools in maintaining their gardens, yielding 44.5 kilograms of vegetables. Also assisted four households engaged in vegetable production at home.
3. Harvested
646.2 kilograms of vegetables on Kwajalein Atoll, providing a stable supply for group meals in cooperative schools, benefiting 298 students.

4. Held 15 sessions of agri-food education courses, cooking training for group meal staff, community nutrition promotion, and cooking demonstrations.
