Project Description:This project will assist the Guatemalan government to strengthen small-scale farmers’ production and management skills, achieve quality assurance and establish direct export mechanisms for their products.
Overall, this project will:
- Assist the Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) to provide guidance to small-scale farmers on gaining agricultural production certification.
- Assist the MAGA to establish Good Manufacturing Practices, meet export quarantine specifications and introduce post-harvest handling technologies and related systems.
- Assist farmers’ organizations to enhance their agricultural enterprise management capabilities, as well as increase profitability, productivity and competitiveness.

Project Objectives:The objectives of this project are:
- Promote “Aid for Trade” as a new model for international cooperation and development.
- Assist Guatemalan farmers to improve the competitiveness of their products in the market.
- Alleviate poverty in rural areas by expanding export markets for agricultural products.
Executing Agency:

Implementation Arrangement:Members of the Taiwan Investment and Trade Service Mission in Central America will provide technical assistance and assistance for capacity building.
Project Performance:
- Create access to markets and establish a buyer’s database, then match export opportunities for agricultural products with existing data sources.
- Assist export-oriented farmers’ associations to design catalogs and new packaging for their products, producing 3,000 copies of promotional materials.
- Organize courses or workshops on product inspection and international food safety certification for the benefit of 150 participants.
- Assist two farmers’ associations to improve production and packaging facilities, pesticide testing operations, water quality, soil testing operations and disease prevention measures.
- Conduct training courses on agribusiness administration for 150 participants and the management of the MAGA project team.
- Complete the transfer of the project to the MAGA.
