Project Name:Horticultural Crops Development Consultants Dispatch Project (Bahrain)

Cooperating Country:Middle East, Bahrain

Project Description:

Based on the "Agreement of Agricultural Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of China and the Government of the State of Bahrain," the Government of the Republic of China has dispatched technical consultants to work with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture of Bahrain. The consultants provide strategic advice on agricultural development in response to national development policies and explore potential areas of bilateral cooperation in smart city development. The overall objective is to enhance bilateral interaction and exchange in agriculture and smart city initiatives. The main tasks of the dispatched personnel include: 1.Exploring potential areas of cooperation in smart city development;2.Collecting data on the development of the aquaculture industry;3.Providing other consultancy services related to aquaculture and fisheries.

Executing Agency:

Taiwan Technical Mission in the Kingdom of Bahrain / Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Bahrain 

Current Progress:

As of September 2025, the following activities have been completed:

1. Completed the primary and subculture tissue culture techniques for two banana and potato strains, and established desert-climate cultivation models for dragon fruit and passion fruit adapted to Bahrain’s environment. Additionally, continued mentoring five interns to strengthen local capacity building.

2. In July, participated in the Hoorat A’ali Date Palm Festival to showcase tissue culture achievements, which received recognition from the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), and the Bahrain Development Bank. In September, hosted visits from several senior officials from Bahraini ministries to the laboratory and greenhouse, demonstrating the tissue culture processes for date palms and orchids, thereby highlighting the successful promotion of Taiwan’s horticultural technology in Bahrain.
