Project Name:St. Kitts and Nevis Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project (Phase 2)

Project Description:
Taiwan and the government of St. Kitts and Nevis have cooperated on the “St. Kitts and Nevis Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project” since 2021. aimed at enhancing resource recycling awareness among the people and assisting the government in establishing a preliminary waste recycling model and mechanism. As to effectively accelerate the development of waste recycling in St. Kitts and Nevis, the government of St. Kitts and Nevis hopes to continue to leverage Taiwan's experience in waste recycling systems to improve back-end waste disposal capabilities and increase resource reuse rates., align with international green environmental protection and Net Zero trends, and achieve sustainable development goals. The main contents of this project include: (1) Establishing a backend recycling channel to enhance the economic value of recyclables and establish a high-value system; (2) Assisting the government of St. Kitts and Nevis in strengthening strategic planning and enhancing public awareness of recycling.

Project Objectives:
Enhanced the back-end waste treatment and recycling capabilities of St. Kitts and Nevis, successfully processing 50% of the total recyclables collected by the project before its end.

Implementation Progress:
By the end of September 2025, the project has accomplished the following key milestones:
1. Launched paper recycling system on both St. Kitts and Nevis Islands.
2. Held a pilot run of the recycling system in 3 communities from Nevis Island, and advertised the activity via broadcastings, churches and postings.
3. Engaged 10 waste sorting recycling companies and organized 4 training and exchange workshops.
4. In order to promote sustainability, we organized waste recycling competition, with 57 schools in total from both islands to participate in the contest.
