Project Name:Strengthening Mental Health and Digitally Empowering War-Affected Children and Adolescents in Western Ukraine

Project status:Projects in Operation

Cooperating Country:Ukraine

Project Description:

This project aims to address the profound and wide-ranging mental health impacts of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War on the Ukrainian population, building on the outcomes of the earlier initiative, Enhancing Access to Quality Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services for War-affected Children, Adolescents and Their Families in Western Ukraine. Aligned with UN OCHA’s 2025 Ukraine Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan and the “How are you?” National Mental Health Flagship Program launched by Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska, the project emphasizes an integrated approach to mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). It expands previous MHPSS interventions to incorporate information, education and case management services, with the goal of strengthening the psychological well-being and future resilience of war-affected children and adolescents in the western Ukrainian oblasts of Ivano-Frankivska (IF) and Khmelnytska (KH). Overall, the project includes the following:

  1. Child-friendly spaces (CFS) and Resilience Innovation Facilities(RIF) are equipped and maintained.
  2. Training sessions for Positive Parenting, MGSC, Move ON & Engage methodology, RIF and Child Participation are conducted to facilitators responsible to manage the CFS and RIF, and/or part of mobile teams.
  3. MHPSS activities are delivered to children and parents in Child Friendly Spaces, Resilience Innovation Facilities, and by mobile teams.
  4. Child-Advisory Boards (CAB) are established and supported within CFS.
  5. Formal and non-formal actors (disaggregated by age, gender and type/entity) are trained on a capacity strengthening activity on child protection.
  6. Children have access to quality case management services based on international standards (delivered by Tdh and partner RRC).
