Project Description：

Fiji's agriculture is increasingly threatened by extreme weather events, such as unusually high temperatures and frequent heavy rainfall, intensified by climate change. To address these challenges, the Fijian Government urgently seeks to strengthen the resilience of its agriculture sector.

The Taiwan Technical Mission in Fiji will serve as a technology advisor, introducing advanced, environmentally friendly agricultural tools and practices developed in Taiwan. The Mission will also engage local communities to promote agricultural education and support Fiji's “Twin Transformation” strategy, simultaneously adopting advanced technology and sustainable farming methods.

Key components of the project include:(1) Promoting resilient crop varieties through strategic resource allocation; (2) Introduction resilient cultivation techniques tailored to local conditions; (3) Establishment  resilient demonstration sites to showcase best practices and foster wider adoption.

Project Objectives：

Key project objectives includ:

1. Reserving resources for the promotion of weather-resistant crop varieties, fostering exchanges between the two countries' industrial chains, conducting forward-looking research and analysis to support the expansion of Taiwan's seedling industry into international markets and promote foreign investment in the future, thereby achieving the goal of economic prosperity for partner countries.
2. Introduce resilient cultivation technologies, aligning with the goals of tech diplomacy, developind site-appropriate smart agricultural technologies, and establishing industrial backbone technologies (or models) to support agricultural development in partner countries.
3. Establish a resilience demonstration site and expanding cooperation with international organizations in countries such as the United States and Japan to jointly promote an industrial upgrading model aligned with the twin transformation strategy, creating examples of value diplomacy in practice.

Current Progress：

As of the end of June 2026, the following have been completed:

1. Assisted 22 farmers in adopting resilient cultivation practices.

2. Ensured the sustainable operation of the Sigatoka demostration center, with annual turnover reaching US$142,055.3.

3. Completed 14 resilient agriculture workshops.
4. Transformed the Nausori Demonstration Farm into the Pacific Resilient and Smart Agriculture Demonstration Center, hosting a total of 594 participant visits and internships to date.
5. Completed the climate-resilient cabbage variety trials and established one set of resilient cultivation models.

Project Performance：

Farmers who have received guidance on the cultivation of 23 hectares of land are expected to achieve a 60% reduction in  production losses caused by extreme weather.
