Project Name:Livestock and Slaughtering Hygiene Enhancement Project (Marshall Islands)

Project Description:

The aim of this project is to increase piglet production and improve the turnover rate of pigs. Additionally, the project will support the establishment of a hygienic slaughterhouse to demonstrate humane and sanitary slaughtering practices, thereby enhancing the quality of locally produced pork. This will ensure a stable supply of fresh and hygienic pork for the public and students. The main components of the project include: (1)promoting a sustainable small-scale pig farming model to increase local pig production; (2) advocating humane and hygienic slaughtering practices to strengthen pork food safety and hygiene; and, (3) enhancing the technical expertise and management capabilities of personnel from cooperating institutions.

Project Objectives:

Increase piglet production at Laura Farm by 10% and achieve a 12% hygienic slaughter rate for pork in Majuro Atoll.

Executing Agency:

Ministry of Natural Resources & Commerce-Agriculture Division/Ministry of Education, Sports and Training-Public School System (PSS) /Taiwan Technical Mission in the RMI

Current Progress:

As of the end of June 2026, the following has been completed:

1. Bred 2,182 piglets at Laura Farm, of which 1,396 were provided to the main island and outlying islands for rearing.

2.   Assisted 8 core pig breeders in producing 538 piglets.

3.   Assisted 3 pig breeders on Kwajalein Atoll who have produced 114 piglets to date.
