Project Name:Southern Leyte Typhoon Rai Livelihoods Early Recovery Support (Philippines)

Project Description:

In December 2021, Super Typhoon Rai (Odette) caused major destruction in the Visayas and Mindanao Islands of the Philippines. Approximately 3.2 million people were displaced and 2.2 million laborers affected. Agricultural losses are estimated to have totaled more than US $266 million. The Philippine government declared that six severely damaged regions would enter a one-year state of severe disaster. Southern Leyte was one of the hardest-hit provinces, with an estimated 28,650 vulnerable households in urgent need of support to resume their livelihood activities and meet the basic survival needs of their families. This project aims to assist vulnerable households affected by Typhoon Rai in the municipalities of Padre Burgos and Tomas Oppos in Southern Leyte Province to resume their livelihoods. Overall, the project includes the following:

1. Provide livelihood restoration cash support, of PHP15,000 per family, to 340 families.

2. Organize livelihood technical skills training, simplified business planning, and family preparedness planning to 680 individuals or at least 2 representatives per family.

Project Objectives:

Assist vulnerable households affected by Typhoon Rai in the municipalities of Padre Burgos and Tomas Oppos in Southern Leyte Province to resume their livelihoods.

Executing Agency:

CRS Philippines

Implementation Arrangement:

During the project implementation, the TaiwanICDF arranged the monitoring mission while inviting the Norwegian Refugee Council to provide cash assistance and send experts to the project site. CRS Philippines executed and supervised the proposed activities and reported to the TaiwanICDF.
