To enhance the sustainable disaster prevention and disaster-resistant capabilities of partner countries, the TaiwanICDF held the "Disaster Resistance Webinar” on April 27, 2022, with the Deputy Secretary General of the TaiwanICDF, Mr. Stephen Lee delivering the remarks. The webinar was conducted both in person and virtually. The Taiwanese experts had a face-to-face roundtable discussion while the experts from Japan accompanied them online. In this way, Taiwan and Japan shared their experience in promoting sustainable disaster prevention and disaster-resistant communities with 40 public and private sector participants from partner countries.

At the event, officials from the Water and Disaster Management Bureau of Japan and experts from Kyoto University were invited to introduce Japan’s community disaster prevention experience; Taiwan’s representatives from the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR), Water Resources Agency and Taoyuan City Government introduced community organizations and disaster prevention models. The Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation shared what assistance non-governmental organizations can provide in disaster prevention.

To give the public the opportunity to acquire up-to-date knowhow on disaster prevention through this webinar, an application announcement was made by the community disaster prevention platform of the Water Resources Agency prior to the webinar, attracting applications from a total of 115 frontline disaster prevention personnel from counties and villages in Taiwan to attend either virtually or in person.

The TaiwanICDF will continue to conduct training courses on different issues, maintain its role as a platform providing opportunities for exchanges between domestic and international experts, and advance the human resources and sustainable development of all partner countries.
