Project Name:Guava and Dragon Fruit Production, Marketing Extension, and Capacity Building Project (Fiji)

Project status:Projects in Operation

Cooperating Country:Asia-Pacific, Fiji

Project Description:

In order to achieve economic diversification, the Fiji government hopes Taiwan to assist in establishing a new product fruit industry foundation.

Implementation Start Date:2020-01-01

Implementation End Date:2024-12-31

Project Objectives:

In order to achieve economic diversification, the Fiji government hopes Taiwan will assist in establishing a new foundation for the fruit production industry so that in the future, Fiji can sell emerging fruit tree products to neighboring island countries to create higher economic benefits. The Fiji Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) selected guava and dragon fruit as the main promotion items of this project based on the sales performance of items introduced by Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) in the past. The Fiji MOA hopes that TTM will instruct farmers to further strengthen cultivation and management techniques, supply quality seedlings, and organize farmer production and marketing groups to jointly produce, collect, grade, package and market. Thus, farmer production and marketing groups can control the output and quality according to market demand and create Fiji's emerging fruit tree industry. The project also plans to establish two modern demonstration farms in the Nausori area to enhance the training capacity of TTM on the cultivation of vegetables and fruit trees on the east coast of Viti Levu Island, echo sustainable agriculture, and increase TTM’s visibility in Fiji and the South Pacific region.
