Project Description：

The Government of Saint Lucia proposed its new “SMART Nation Initiative” project to Taiwan, which includes the fields of education, network infrastructure, “smart community”, “smart heritage”, and “smart identity”. Considering the scope of the initiative and the available resources, Taiwan Technical Mission in St. Lucia decided to focus on “smart education” after discussion with the Government of St. Lucia. After a comprehensive analysis of problems faced by St. Lucia, the quality of innovative education using ICT in Education was found to be weaker than anticipated. As a result, this project proposed using ICT in Education at vanguard schools to develop a featured curriculum and establish a replicable model for “ICT in education” that is replicable and will be rolled out across the country. The first step is to train teachers to ensure they have the skills to use ICT and, after producing a diverse range of related teaching materials, establish an education portal and an online learning platform.

Project Objectives：Enhance the teaching quality of teachers receiving counseling and the learning effectiveness of their students.

Current Progress：

By the end of November 2022, the following activities have been completed:
1. Held a St. Lucians teachers' training of C-DELTA Course (Commonwealth Digital Education Leadership Training in Action), and invited students to join STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) sharing session.

2. Held 14 promoting events of project concept and 3 presentations to publize the fruitful results.

3. Held 29 workshops for St. Lucians teachers, collaborating with Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) on “E-Learning Academy for Educator” and "Digital Education Leadership Training". And collaboerate with University of West Indies (UWI)to conduct "Preparing for Remote Delivery" workshop. Trained 10 seeded teachers.

4. Contributed the "Twin School Program" between Gordon & Walcott Memorial Methodist School in Saint Lucia and Guting Elementary School in Taipei City, Taiwan. And assist the e-book creation for teaching materials exchange.

5. Completed designing 34 digital lesson plans.

6. Held a selection activity with ICT innovative application in education.

11. Online Teaching Exchange for "Twin School Program" in between Gordon & Walcott Memorial Methodist School in Saint Lucia and Guting Elementary School in Taipei City, Taiwan.

12. Smart classroom launching ceremony at Banse La Grace Primary School, Babonneau Primary School and Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary School.

13. Hold 2 trainings for school faculty.

14. Lesson planning trainings for teachers in Laborie Boys' school and Canaries primary school.

15. Completed a video filming for closing ceremony on coding training for teachers.

16. Acceptance of work: lesson planning system for 6 schools

17. Smart classroom system in 6 schools are set up.

18.  System trainings in 6 school such as  the use of the equipments, stimulation in education.

19.  Twin School MOU Signing Ceremony between the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School and the Tainan Municipal Jincheng Junior High School

20. Hand over ceremony of the project between Taiwan Embassy and Ministry of Education.
