Project Description：

St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Economic and Social Development Plan 2013 – 2025 outlines that the strategic focus is to boost the agricultural sector’s competitiveness and promote economic diversification. Facilitating livestock commercialization is one of the main focuses of this plan. To achieve this, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour proposed technical cooperation plans for the development of the pig, sheep and goat sectors, with the aim of improving breeding technology to increase production, enhance livestock nutrition and promote commercial success.

Implementation Start Date：2023-08-25

Implementation End Date：2026-12-31

Project Objectives：

Increase the supply of high quality breeding stock at the national livestock breeding and multiplication centers including increasing the supply of breeding pigs by 60% (to an annual output of 320 pigs) and increasing the supply of breeding sheep by 4 times (to an annual output of 160 sheep and goat).

Current Progress：

To the end of March 2026,the following activities have been completed：

1. Produced a total of 55 breeding piglets and 84 breeding kids this quarter.

2. Conducted technical visits and consultancy for local pig and goat farmers, reaching a cumulative total of 25 households.

3. Organized one pig farming demonstration workshop with 17 participants.

4. Developed one new swine feed formulation by improving local forage and integrating it with other crops.

5. Continued to provide technical guidance on swine production and breeding technologies to four seed teachers from the National Breeding Stock Farm.
