Project Name:Improving Livestock Rearing Project

Project Description:

St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Economic and Social Development Plan 2013 – 2025 outlines that the strategic focus is to boost the agricultural sector’s competitiveness and promote economic diversification. Facilitating livestock commercialization is one of the main focuses of this plan. To achieve this, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour proposed technical cooperation plans for the development of the pig, sheep and goat sectors, with the aim of improving breeding technology to increase production, enhance livestock nutrition and promote commercial success.

Implementation End Date:2026-12-31

Project Objectives:

Increase the supply of high quality breeding stock at the national livestock breeding and multiplication centers including increasing the supply of breeding pigs by 60% (to an annual output of 320 pigs) and increasing the supply of breeding sheep by 4 times (to an annual output of 160 sheep and goat).

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour/ Taiwan Technical Mission

Current Progress:

To the end of December 2025,the following activities have been completed:

1. Conducted technical outreach and on-site counseling for local pig and goat farmers, totaling 106 household visits.

2. Organized nine livestock management workshops, with a cumulative attendance of 178 participants throughout the year.

3. Completed the Breeding Pig and Goat Management Manuals to serve as a standardized technical reference for satellite farms.

4. Improved local forage varieties and integrated them with other crops to develop two new specialized nutritional formulas for goat feed.

5. Provided specialized training and guidance to four seed instructors in livestock selection and breeding techniques at the National Breeding Farm.
