With a click of the shutter,
I have captured your spirit
And the memories you leave behind.
The innocence of life, the beauty of giving.
The profoundness of selflessness, like a jacaranda tree in full bloom.
Since then,
My journey into the world
Is no longer about curiosity,
Nor about competition or conquest.
I have achieved my destiny
With steady calm and faith.
My wandering heart, now remains in place.
Along the way I met many friends,
And we reveled at the Carnival.
You remained in my memory,
Shining brighter than the rainbow.
As fiery as the heart of the earth,
You have become a lifelong pursuit.
Paddling home at sunset,
I gaze at the lights on the island.
As our worlds collide on this journey,
Time suddenly stands still.
In that moment’s flash,
I finally understand –
I see myself in you, you are my journey’s end.

This exhibition,"Seeing Myself in You", brings together 55 outstanding photographs shot in 22 countries from among a host of submissions. Each piece conveys the observations and experiences of its respective photographer as to living in a foreign country, or the local cultural landscape and customs, with accompanying text describing each photographer’s impressions as the photo was taken. This glimpse through the photographer’s lens, together with the text, allows the viewer to capture the feeling behind the work, and thus, internalized through a process of self-reflection, engenders respect for the range of local cultures on display here.

About the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF)
Since the TaiwanICDF was founded in 1996, we have been dedicated to boosting socio-economic development, enhancing human resources, and promoting economic relations in a range of developing partner countries. We also offer humanitarian assistance and provide aid in the event of natural disasters or international refugee crises. We offer a range of assistance that centers on four core operations: lending and investment, technical cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and international education and training. Our work is tailored to the local needs of each of our partner countries, with assistance covering a variety of contemporary development issues such as environmental protection, public health and medicine, agriculture, education, and information and communications technology. At present, we operate overseas missions and implement special projects across Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, and West Asia, dispatching more than 150 technicians and project managers to carry out such operations.
