Permanent Medical Mission

Our permanent medical missions provide assistance from fixed locations in two African countries. Mission members aim to improve medical facilities from the ground up, and perform research on endemic diseases and common health problems affecting their host countries. In addition to providing diagnostic services and treatment in local hospitals and clinics, medics regularly visit isolated rural communities to provide medical services and promote public health education. They also strengthen institutional medical capacity by leading demonstrations and providing clinical training for local medical personnel.

Our missions are staffed by physicians specializing in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatric medicine. Members of the Taiwan Youth Overseas service also serve at these locations, where they are often assigned to address key issues concerning public health. Mission medics monitor and respond to the concerns of the international health care community, having initiated several programs to tackle issues first raised at the UN and WHO.
