Project Name: Egg Production Project(Nauru)
Project Description: The main sources of protein in Nauruan’s diets are fish and canned food, with day-to-day diets lacking any domestically produced poultry meat.

Analysis has identified that a shortage of land and resources have constrained the availability and production of feed grain. This has hampered the development of the island’s poultry technology, resulting in excessively high price for domestically produced chicken eggs.

Eggs are one of the most important sources of nutrition for growing adolescents, and so in order to enhance the nutrition and protein levels of local school lunches, this project will improve the dietary nutrition of Nauruan citizens by producing chicken eggs for student meals, as well as by integrating vegetable production and enhancing nutrition-related promotional activities.

The main contents of project will include:
1.Producing 1,222,750 eggs for use in nutritious school meals.
2.Conducting 480 veterinary sessions to attend to pigs and chickens.
3.Producing 5,000 chicks and providing associated technical assistance.

Project Performance: It has been accomplished that:
1.Increase Nauru’s total production capacity to 898,005 eggs.
2.Promote poultry-raising techniques in Nauru, increasing domestic stocks by 5,000 layers.
3.Held 15 training workshops.
4.Provide medical services 200 times to farmers.
