TaiwanICDF Assists Rotary Nauru in Containing COVID-19

On 11 April, the International Cooperation and Development Fund’s (TaiwanICDF) Dietary Diversity Extension Project in Nauru held a charity egg sale. The proceeds were donated to Rotary Nauru to fund SpaTaps, portable taps that can fit to any bottle and convert it into a mobile tap or handwashing station. TaiwanICDF expects these devices will encourage students to wash their hands regularly to fight the spread of COVID-19.

The Taiwan Technical Mission in Nauru has worked to promote dietary diversity through holding dietary nutrition activities at community and public health centers, and food and agriculture education for schools. Using these activities, TaiwanICDF aims to raise Nauruan citizens’ and local NCDs patients’ awareness of dietary diversity. Furthermore, TaiwanICDF will strengthen education on agricultural production, environment and diet for students and teachers, and help them build balanced diets. Last but not least, the project also aims to provide various vegetables and animal sources of protein. TaiwanICDF’s goal is to improve the diet and nutrition status of Nauruans.

Because of the COVID-19 situation and the lack of a tap with running water in most Nauruan schools, TaiwanICDF donated all proceeds from the charity egg sale to Rotary Nauru to purchase portable washing devices. The devices will be used to promote personal hygiene and frequent handwashing. This will not only help prevent COVID-19, but will also combat the spread of trachoma, influenza and many other diseases.

The Taiwan Technical Mission in Nauru will continue to specialize in the fields of agriculture, livestock and nutrition, and actively seek partnership opportunities with local organizations to strengthen Taiwan’s influence on Nauru and show the world that "Taiwan can help."
