Project Name: Family Fish Farming Promotion Project in Nicaragua
Project Description: The strategy of development of fisheries and aquaculture in Nicaragua, has as a strategic guideline, research, promotion and development of the cultivation of freshwater species. In view of this situation, the government has promoted the construction of water collection works by runoff, with the objective of increasing production and improving the resilience of the leading families of the Dry Corridor.
Of the works built for water collection, there are at least 59 producers in 20 municipalities in 7 departments of the country (Chinandega, Managua, Masaya, Rivas, Matagalpa, Chontales, Estelí). Due to the lack of acrylic technology and access to fish and food for family farmers, and the lack of systematic support for the resources of family farmers, aquaculturists have a long period of cultivation and low yields, and there is an urgent need of external resources to improve. Therefore, the Government of Nicaragua has proposed this plan to improve the technology of family aquaculture and provide timely support to the fry and food of family farmers through the technical support of family farmers, the provision of channels for family aquaculture. source of food and fry and the improvement of the capacity of technical personnel. The production of family farmers increases protein consumption and family income.
