Project Name: National Rice Seed Production Enhancement Project in North/North-East, Haiti
Project Description: In accordance with the policy of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse to increase food security and to expand the impact of the Rice Seed Production Capacity Enhancement Project in Haiti, the Ministry of Agriculture of Natural Resources and Rural Development of Haiti intends to increase production capacity of rice seed in the North/North-East region up to 5,000 tons, with the expectation that the supply rate reaches 100 percent in order to enhance the production of rice in Haiti and increase incomes of Haitian farmers.

Project Objectives: 1.Establish a community seed bank system to achieve an annual yield goal of 5,000 tons of quality rice seed in 2021.
2.Establish the first seed laboratory in the north; guide the community seed banks to analyze and control seed quality.
3.Guide 20 farmers’ organizations to establish multi-service center to support regional seed bank and offer agricultural services to the region.
4.Enhance the capacity of agricultural machinery services and equip 45 power tillers, 50 wind blowers and 20 rice polishing machines. Train 23 technicians in repair and maintenance techniques and 45 operators in machinery operation techniques.

2.Technical Mission of The Republic of China(Taiwan) in the Republic of Haiti
Current Progress: To the end of June 2020, the following activities have been completed:
1.Entrusted the production of 2.3 tons of foundation seeds on 1.1 hectares land in Mauger Farm.
2.Guided the production of foundation seeds of one farmers' organization, accounting for 0.5 hectares.
3.Guided the production of registered seeds of ten farmers' organizations, accounting for 27.45 hectares, of which 11.45 hectares have harvested 45.2 tons.
4.Guided the production of qualified seeds of seventeen farmers' organizations, accounting for 564.7 hectares, of which 12.7 hectares have harvested 53 tons.
5.Seven agronomists were trained to guide the multi-service centers (three training courses).
6.Twenty-four inspectors were trained for seed inspection in two multi-service centers (seven training courses).
7.Thirteen extension workers were trained to guide the production of registered seeds (four training courses).
8.Guided ten farmers' organizations to establish the multi-service centers.
9.Selected thirteen sites for the multi-service centers.
10.Fifteen training courses for seed growers were completed, with a total of 348 participants.
11.Cooperated with Agrisud International to conduct research on the impact of climate change on agricultural production in Saint Raphael.
12.Accomplished the SWOT analysis report of selecting the multi-service centers in the North-East Province.
13.Two field observation activities were completed, with a total of 60 participants.
14.Set up a new seed examination laboratory.
15.Set up an agricultural machinery parts depot.
