Project Name: Honduras Home Garden Project: Emergency relief for victims in the south (Honduras)
Project Description: In southern Honduras, rainfall in certain areas has been more than 80 percent lower than average during 2012. Most small-scale farmers do not have irrigation systems on their farmland, and without water, production for the first farming season was incredibly low. Small-scale farmers and low income families were affected the most. Poor production has resulted in food shortages and no income. Farmers will not be able to afford seeds and fertilizer to replant now or during subsequent farming seasons. A home garden irrigation system and the distribution of seeds and fertilizer could ease the situation in the second farming season. TaiwanICDF sponsors Agricultural Science and Technology Agency of Honduras (DICTA) to establish home garden system and distribute material to benefit local victims.
