Project Name: Aquaculture Project (Fiji)
Project Description: This project is an aid production plan project. With an aim to assists the Caboni Multi-species Hatchery (hereinafter referred to as CMH) under the Ministry of Fisheries in the rehabilitation of infrastructure facilities, to build human capacity and produce free white shrimp larvae (PLs) to the farmers in the country. In-addition the purpose of this aquaculture development project is to consider the breeding of some economical species. These species will includes milkfish and groupers.

The main activities of the project are:
1.The training of 4 hatchery technicians in CMH.
2.Improving the breeding facilities in CMH. Including 11 outdoor earthen ponds and 8 concrete pools (raceways).
3.Producing 3 million post larvae of seawater shrimp.
4.To breed 200 milkfish as broodstock for the supply of bait to the tuna fishing industry in the future.
5.To breed 50 grouper fish as broodstock for the marine aquaculture industry.

Project Objectives: The objectives of this project are:
1.To assist the Ministry of Fisheries in improving the institutional functions and facilities and to assisting CMH in the production of 3 million post larvae of seawater shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei).
2.To breed 200 adult milkfish (three-year-old) as future broodstocks.
3.To breed 50 adult grouper fish (three-year-old) as future broodstocks.
4.To hold 8 aquaculture education training or workshops.
5.To conduct capacity building and training of 4 hatchery technicians.
6.To develop a standard operating procedure manual.

Current Progress: To the end of June 2019, the following activities have been completed:
1. Produced 0.515 million larvae of freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), 0.55 million larvae of seawater shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), and 0.399 million male tilapia in research stations under the Ministry of Fisheries.
2. Held 3 capacity building workshop for 160 people.
