Project Name: Support to IDPs, Returnees and Host Communities in South Sudan
Project Description: With support from The Taiwan ICDF, Mercy Corps will implement a multi-pronged approach to meet the food security needs of Internally Displaced People (IDP),
Returnees and Host communities in the Abyei area, a territory on the border of South Sudan and Sudan. This approach will meet both the relief and immediate needs of displaced populations and returnees as well as strengthen the resilience of communities to host these vulnerable populations.

Project Objectives: To implement a multi-pronged approach to meet the food security needs of Internally Displaced People (IDP), Returnees and Host communities in the Abyei area, a territory on the border of South Sudan and Sudan.

Implementation Arrangement:

Activities proposed for funding provided by Taiwan ICDF will include:

  1. Increase access to agricultural inputs for 100 households-100 returnee or host community households (700 individuals) will form 3 production groups that will receive actual delivery or vouchers worth up to $1000 per group for essential agriculture inputs to restart agricultural production and aid longer term food security.
  2. 100 farmers improve agricultural techniques-100 farming households (700 individuals) will participate in essential agriculture training, increasing knowledge and farming ability, resulting in improved household production.
  3. Provide tractor tillage facilities for 250 farmers with the Ministry of Agriculture- The Ministry of Agriculture have 5 tractors currently in Agok and require the provision of fuel to provide communities with tractor tillage services.

Together with the Ministry, Mercy Corps will identify 250 farmer households to receive tractor tillage services in time for the second harvest so as to increase the yield, thereby strengthening the food security of 1,750 people.
