Taiwan Technical Mission in Kiribati Hosts Cookery Contest in Temaiku, Promotes Healthy Lifestyle

The Taiwan Technical Mission put on a cookery contest for the local community in Temaiku in August, with activities designed to encourage better health and lifestyle through healthy cooking and eating. Each of the six teams entering the contest was required to utilize a range of technology and locally grown produce promoted and supplied by the mission.Contestants’ dishes were assessed later in the day and prizes awarded according to rank. Shortly after picking up first prize, contest winner Mr. Mikaere said that the activity had provided all concerned with an opportunity to practice their skills and would encourage families to seek out healthier lifestyles and eating habits in future.Taiwanese technician Daniel Lee also pointed out that the contest had enhanced awareness of the importance of a balanced diet among I-Kiribati residents. The Taiwan Technical Mission would continue to actively educate the public about the nutritional value of green vegetables in its bid to improve public health, he added.
