New Mandarin TV program in Nicaragua makes it easy to learn the language at home

New Mandarin TV program in Nicaragua makes it easy to learn the language at home

The Mandarin teacher from International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), Shih-Ting Jen, has collaborated with the Nicaraguan TV station, Canal 6, to launch the show “Nica Mandarin” on learning Mandarin. The program, which premiered on March 26, 2019, lets Nicaraguan residents learn Mandarin by watching TV from the comforts of their homes.

The press screening was held on March 19, 2019 and attended by Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Republic of Nicaragua, Jaime Chin-Mu Wu and Aarón Peralta, director of Cannel 6. Both parties were very happy with this cooperation initiative. The TV series, the first of its kind in Nicaragua, represents a milestone in Mandarin teaching.

“Nica Mandarin” is broadcast every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon. There are 10 episodes and each episode is about 5 minutes. Contents include greetings, daily conversation and information on Taiwanese culture, among others, with the Nicaraguan students, Taiwan Embassy staff and diplomatic alternative conscripts acting out the scenes on conversation practice. Through this TV program, Nicaraguans can learn Mandarin and increase their understanding of the culture of Taiwan.

The Overseas Professional Mandarin Teaching Project was initiated in 2014. The TaiwanICDF dispatches professional Mandarin teachers to allied and friendly countries to teach the language and promote Taiwanese culture overseas, thereby improving bilateral relations as well. In 2018, 17 Mandarin teachers were dispatched to 11 partner countries to provide professional Mandarin teaching classes.
