Freshman Orientation Kicks off for TaiwanICDF International Scholarship Students

Orientation for this year’s International Higher Education Scholarship Program was held in Taichung on September 5, 2018. A total of 179 new students from 32 countries are enrolled in the program this year. Representatives of various embassies were also invited to attend and encourage students to cherish this opportunity and study hard in Taiwan so that they can contribute what they learn when they return to their countries.

The TaiwanICDF International Higher Education Scholarship Program was initiated in 1998. The program provides full financial support for tuition and living expenses, and having grown in scope over the years, now covers 35 courses from 21 universities. These courses focus on the development needs of our partner countries by addressing issues such as tropical agriculture, aquatic sciences, business administration, information technology, human resource development, medicine and public health, or various fields of engineering.

To date, a total of 59 countries and 2,083 students have received scholarships. For this year’s orientation, we invited our graduate student from National Chengchi University IMBA Juan Diego Prudot to share his experience of studying business and entrepreneurship in Taiwan. Juan teamed up with fellow classmates and together they won the Hult Prize in 2015. After returning to his home country, he established an education investment platform to assist schools in rural villages to raise funds to benefit local students, and is a successful example of this project.
