Project Name: Integrated Action for Children’s Nutrition Project (Philippines)
Project Description: The Eastern Visayas Region in the Philippines remains one of the poorest regions in the country and there is high prevalence of malnutrition in the region. Also, nutrition improvement has become one of the most important topics in public health. Therefore, the project aims to improve the nutrition of children under five and to increase access of families (including children) to health and nutrition services in 35 barangays of Leyte and Samar Province.

Overall, the project will:
1. Build capacity of community-based Breast Feeding Support Groups (BFSGs) to educate caregivers on proper feeding practices.
2. Educate the caregivers on child care, hygiene and sanitation practices.
3. Rehabilitate the underweight children.
4. Construct one (1) health facility and rehabilitate two (2) health facilities.

Project Objectives: As a result of this project, children under five in the target areas have been properly fed and have improved nutritional status, and the families (including children) have access to health and nutrition services.
Executing Agency: World Vision
Implementation Arrangement: The TaiwanICDF dispatches two volunteers to assist in the implementation of the project during the 14 months; World Vision Development Foundation (Philippines) implements the proposed activities and liaises with local government units and stakeholders; World Vision Taiwan assists in the supervision of the project.
Current Progress: To the end of August 2019, the following activities have been completed:
1.Provided Infant Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Training for 30 Community-based Breast Feeding Support Groups (BFSGs).
2.Provided “Go Baby Go” Training for health and nutrition workers and leaders of 30 breastfeeding support groups, and the training program was further promoted by the trainees at the community level, with the participation of 239 caregivers.
3.Conducted the First 1000 days promotion with the participation of 556 caregivers.
4.62 malnourished children were enrolled in Pinoy Nutrition Hub (PNH) from June to August, where 24 of them gained weight after the 12-day session.
5.Completed the construction of Barangay Health Station in Tulay of Sta. Rita Municipality.
6.Distributed anthropometric tools (height board and salter scale) and medical supplies to 35 barangays.
