Project Name: Rain water catchment systems for schools and community centers in Jordan
Project Description: As one of the most water scarce countries in the world, water shortages impact every aspect of Jordan’s development. The Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan has placed an added burden to Jordan’s scarce water resources. One area where water scarcity is most visible in the daily life of Jordanians is within public schools and informal learning centers, this project will equip schools and community centers in Jordan with rainwater catchment systems and other upgrades, with the overall goal of conserving water and educating children, adolescents and their families about water conservation.
Overall, the project will:
1.Install 5 new rainwater catchment systems, and provide grey water reuse systems and water saving devices when necessary at schools and/or community "Makani" centers;
2. Repair and maintain to a minimum of 6 existing systems at public schools;
3. Implement 22 hands-on, water conservation outreach activities reaching students and their families.

Project Objectives: As a result of this project, schools and community centers in Jordan will improve their ability to conserve water as a result of WASH infrastructure upgrades and demonstrate increased awareness about and use of water conservation practices.

Implementation Arrangement: The TaiwanICDF dispatches a volunteer to assist in the implementation of the project; Mercy Corps implements the proposed activities and liaises with Jordanian government offices and stakeholders.
