TaiwanICDF 2017 Workshop on Trade Facilitation opens new chapter in business opportunities in New Southbound Policy countries

TaiwanICDF 2017 Workshop on Trade Facilitation opens new chapter in business opportunities in New Southbound Policy countries

In line with the New Southbound Policy, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) held the Workshop on Trade Facilitation (Exclusive for ASEAN and South Asian countries) from November 2 to 15, 2017. The workshop aimed to share Taiwan’s latest measures and technology in trade facilitation to assist the New Southbound Policy countries to cultivate human resources in trade facilitation and import/export industries. A total of 16 participants from six countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, India, and Sri Lanka participated in the workshop.

The Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), the first multilateral deal concluded in the history of the WTO which entered into force on 22 February, 2017, is significant to the WTO and the global trading system. Capitalizing on our country's advantages in trade facilitation, the TaiwanICDF held a 14-day Workshop on Trade Facilitation (Exclusive for ASEAN and South Asian countries) to offer capacity building to New Southbound Policy countries on trade facilitation. By holding this workshop, Taiwan can expand its presence in international trade, develop regional talents and stimulate regional economic development in a mutually beneficial environment.

Speakers of this workshop include an economist from Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department of Asian Development Bank (ADB), who shared the latest practices in ADB’s aid for trade and discussed topics of trade facilitation and regional integration. Moreover, field visits were arranged to Taipei Customs, Kaohsiung Customs and an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certified domestic company. The workshop not only shared Taiwan’s experience on trade facilitation, but also helped Taiwan’s industries to build and deepen the economic connections with New Southbound Policy countries.
